Nanny Interview tips

Job Interviews are NOT only about experience and skill set.  A family wants to get to know a potential nanny.  What a parent wants to know is if she or he can trust the nanny's instinct?  Is your instinct similar to their own instincts as parents. An interview is NOT the place to discuss your entire life history, speak when necessary and convey clear, precise and meaningful thoughts. Listen!!!! Actively listen to the person who is interviewing you and ask questions to clarify.  Never make an assumption.  When possible try and interact with the child or children.  A sense of chemistry is important on both sides, but remember if the family has an infant, ask first if its alright to hold the baby and always wash your hands first.  Even if you washed your hands 5 minutes before arriving, always wash your hands before holding a baby.

Dress in a manor that lets a family know you can keep up with children, but remember its also about conveying a sense of who you are.  Light, VERY light make up, NEVER wear any scents (no scented lotion, perfume, or body sprays) no heels, and sneakers should be clean and not those sneakers you go hiking in. Most importantly remember to smile, every family enjoys working with a happy nanny.
